Welcome to Lender Lens, our series for profiling leaders in the Lender community.
With private credit playing an increasingly important role in the financial system, we wanted to find out how lenders are navigating the evolving landscape and how they assess the market in the coming years.
Dealmaking has become more complex in today’s market — and private credit is adapting.
In this edition, we speak with Evan Plisner, Managing Director in the Financial Sponsors & Leveraged Finance group at MidCap Financial, to explore how the firm is delivering tailored and flexible credit solutions to middle-market companies across industries.
With over $60 billion in committed capital and the backing of Apollo Global Management, MidCap blends the scale and stability of a leading platform with the agility and relationship-first approach of a specialized lender.
Evan shares how MidCap differentiates itself in an increasingly competitive private credit market, his outlook for the years ahead, and how becoming a parent has shaped his perspective on communication and leadership.

What is your house investment strategy?
At MidCap, our strategy is centered on providing tailored, flexible credit solutions to middle-market companies across a broad range of industries. We partner with sponsors and management teams to deliver certainty of execution, speed, and structuring expertise. Rather than a one-size-fits-all approach, we structure solutions that reflect the unique needs of each borrower and sponsor, leveraging our experience and industry expertise to build long-term relationships.
How do you differentiate your organization in a competitive landscape? What has partnership with Apollo Global Management Inc. and its affiliates (“Apollo”) brought to the business?
MidCap differentiates itself through scale, product breadth, deep industry vertical knowledge, and a relationship-first mindset. With over $60+ billion of committed capital and a track record spanning nearly two decades, we offer the stability and resources of a leading platform with the responsiveness and relationship focus of a specialized middle-market lender.
Our affiliation with Apollo provides a number of benefits for both MidCap and our sponsor clients – most notably, an increase in the diversity of our capital base and an extremely broad product toolkit that spans everything from senior secured cash flow loans to structured and fund finance, to equipment and working capital solutions. This enables us to provide bespoke financing solutions not available from other lenders.
How do you define your target borrower profile in terms of EBITDA, sector, and geography?
We typically focus on middle-market companies with $10-100+ million of EBITDA, with flexibility to go above or below depending on the situation.
Sector-wise, we’re highly diversified across business services, healthcare, industrials, consumer/retail, and technology & media.
Geographically, our primary focus is North America, with the ability to support global businesses alongside our sponsor partners when needed.
What is your outlook on the private credit market over the next 1–3 years?
We see the next several years as structurally favorable for private credit and believe that sophisticated private credit lenders that can provide solutions with certainty will continue to gain share. While competition remains intense, platforms that can combine scale, deep sponsor relationships, and structuring expertise are best positioned to win. Looking ahead, we believe MidCap is well positioned to be a long-term partner of choice for both sponsors and corporate borrowers
You’ve got a one-year-old daughter — how has becoming a parent shaped your perspective?
My daughter has taught me a masterclass in patience and communication. Attempting to manage a 1-year-old has highlighted the importance of recognizing that others may not understand the message you are trying to deliver or may be interpreting the message differently than you intended. This has reinforced the necessity of clear communication (with both clients and colleagues) and delivering messages in a way that your audience is most likely to understand the message you’re intending to deliver.
